Free software to watch DVD movies on Windows & Linux

This article will introduce you to VLC (VideoLAN) Media Player, which is a complete free media player which plays a variety of file formats including DVD movies. VLC is a completely freeware application that does not contain annoying registration messages, adware, or spyware. This software is supported on Windows 2000, XP, Vista, as well as various Linux flavors. Some of the supported video playback types include: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, DVDs and VCDs.

Using VLC Media Player to watch DVDs

  1. Download and install VLC media player
  2. Insert your DVD movie into the drive
  3. Run it by going to Start->Programs->VideoLAN->VLC media player
  4. Choose File->Open Disc
  5. Ensure the Device name is correct
  6. Click on OK
