How Does OpenStack work? (Part II)

How Does OpenStack work?

If you are a business owner or the person in charge of making the IT decisions for your company, cloud computing can make your head spin. There are many different moving parts to this process, but remember the two basic premises of why OpenStack works for your business; ease and maintenance.

Simple to implement and easy to configure, cloud computing allows you to migrate any part or the entirety of your network with minimal migration problems. OpenStack also includes support for many different third-party hypervisors, such as VMWare or Xen to provide a level of flexibility for your cloud computing solution.

Management and maintenance is handled through a custom application programming interface (API) that puts the power of cloud in your hands. Being able to directly manipulate the features of OpenStack directly through the API, arms you with the power to streamline your business processes and eliminate waste.

This gets the job done faster, especially for large data sets that require large amounts of computing power. Being able to group resources and apply them where needed is a big plus to any data intensive task.

Computing power in your Openstack instance allows for provisioning and management of the virtual machines (VM) through the disk images available. Object storage and block storage helps you migrate data into modular segments of information that can be plugged into the virtual machines that are running, or another instance.

This makes it easy for you and your team of web designers to use existing data in a new instance, without disturbing your live environment. The ease and practicality of this technology expands your business horizons in ways you may have never thought about before.

When managing your own hardware in an open source environment, adding a new physical machine to the cloud is simple and easy to do. Appending a slave machine to a master controller node can be done through Openstack migration text files, or simply through your API.

This allows for scalability without the threat of infrastructure collapse, and if you are using a hosted solution, this process is even easier. Because of the open source nature of this technology, there’s always support to be found for your cloud implementation.

If you are an IT professional looking to make the big leap to cloud based computing and network infrastructure, there are many tools that can aid you in your migration. In fact most cloud templates give you an easy way to deploy your cloud network through configuration files.

Using these automated templates, anyone can setup your cloud based network configuration easily and with a great level of scalability. OpenStack is the best open source tool for flexible implementation and growth through third-party software products that can add to your suite of services.
