What Does the Backdrops Update on Chromecast do?

With so many different plug and play devices for your television these days, they are all coming out with updates frequently that offer amazing features that we always were hoping to have. This includes the always-evolving Chromecast; recently updating with a cool feature called backdrops. You may be thinking, “What does the backdrops features on Chromecast do?”

Well in general it will allow you to create a wonderful screensaver on your TV that features all kinds of web content. This web content can include Google+ images, curated artwork, news and lifestyle pictures and satellite imagery. Think of it as a customizable screensaver but that can be easily altered and offer great new functionality.

One of the coolest features that this offers is being able to learn more about any picture that populates on your TV Screen from your Google app. All you have to do is use the popular command “Ok Google, what’s on Chromecast?” Google Now will then either direct you to a website that the picture is from or send you to the gallery that it is taken from. In addition it will tell you the location and some extra information if it is a popular monument or place.

The Chromecast app continues to update new and useful options within the menu settings where you can easily change through the different content that is populating on your TV screen, including local weather and time. This update has just recently rolled out on Android devices in early October, so take a look at your Chromecast application to see if you have received. If not simply check to see if you have any pending updates for the app.

If you are unfamiliar with Chromecast it is an HDMI dongle for your TV screen that has the ability to stream all kinds of different web content from your mobile device. Everything from Youtube videos, different applications that are Chromecast compatible and now offers mirroring of your Android device on the TV screen. Mirroring your Android device screen, also called casting, is one of the most popular features that Chromecast is rolling out with. Although it does not quite yet offer support for all Android devices, it is available for most flagship Android phones.

Chromecast is quickly taking over TV boxes, cable lines and other content delivering devices by storm. For only $35 you can receive all these features plus more with a Google Chromecast device.
