What about Gingerbread and an OTA fix for these issues?!

As of now, LG nor T-mobile have released Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) or OTA fixes for the G2x bugs. T-mobile has indicated that Gingerbread will be available “by summer” and LG says a fix is “coming soon.” Lets cross our fingers and hope they come through ASAP!

Update 6/3/2011: This is my first pass at this resource guide. I will be adding more links to this regularly, however I encourage users to suggest links to add to this list.

Update 6/19/2011: Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions, I have incorporated them into the article. Still no word on LG and T-mobile on an update. Trying to be patient!

Be sure to check out my HTC Sensation reference guide!

You’re forgetting the WiFi DNS issue.

  2. Sri June 3, 2011, 7:55 am

Hey Heat23, what about the lag to wake/ unlock the screen?
I agree with Durandal_1707. the Wifi DNS issue is one of the most frustrating issue so far and needs top be fixed along with the others ASAP. Also LG’s cust service people should be more courteous to callers and most importantly “acknowledge” that there are major issues with this phone.

Generally, guys, does anyone even think it’s worth having this phone?

    hey man, great idea.

there are also serious data connectivity issues with both the 2G, and 4G networks on this phone. I consistently get a 50/50 connection on both. Can use voice, just no data.

There are also issues with GPS connectivity. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I dont. When I do, it takes a minute, to 5 mins to actually find a connection.

    Thanks for the work!

  4. sood June 3, 2011, 9:32 am

@Durandal_1707 – I have added that issue to the list. Thanks!

@Sri – I added that unlock lag issue as well, although this seems to be less widespread of an issue. I must say that I have been pretty lucky in that I did not have the overheating and reboot/freeze issue. I do have have several other issues but overall I am happy with the phone. I am definitely waiting for an update to fix these other issues. I think if you have major issues like overheating, I would definiately swap out the battery or the entire phone until you get one that does not have this problem. Also, many people are experiencing issues because they are using an older SIM card – please change out your SIM card to the one that came with the phone!

@Jonathan – Thanks for the comment. I also experience the GPS unable to lock (even after waiting 15 minutes) and the resolution I found is to power cycle the phone. Is the connectivity issue you are referring to this one: http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/T-Mobile-G2x/2G-4G-switching-issue-resolved/td-p/830123 ?

I’m not sure if this is related to the Wifi DNS issue, but sometimes when I unlock the phone, my Wifi is disconnected and when I go to the settings it’s shown as “Disabled”. I can select it and hit connect and it does connect fine.

  6. sood June 3, 2011, 8:51 pm

@Ali – I believe that issue is the same as the “WiFi Disconnecting” issue above. If it is not, please let me know.

  7. frustrated June 5, 2011, 9:35 am

I am frustrated with this phone. It doesn’t hold a charge and it’s always on 2g.

  8. MahgninnuC June 10, 2011, 12:31 pm

Had this phone for a week now. I have to say the only thing troubling me is the battery life.
No bleed through on the screen, seems to respond quick. Only had 2 instances of it rebooting out of nowhere.
Is there a way to go to 3G only to save battery life. Thanks. Great site by the way.

    How about endless reboot loop?

  10. e June 17, 2011, 5:14 pm

As of the past two days, my screen will not lock and both the search and home buttons are now inactive.

Purchased my T-Mo G2X in April…not long after receiving it the phone started shutting down for no reason. Had to remove battery and re-insert to get it up and running again. And then one week ago I lost all data connection! The “4G” symbol at the top of my screen disappeared and I was never able to get a data connection of any kind (4G,2G) again. Frustrating not being able to access the internet now for going on a week! T-Mobile tried everything–refreshing/resetting on their end; new Sim card, nothing worked. They overnite expressed to me a brand new phone which I received yesterday and I’m hoping that this new phone works! I like the G2X but these issues are frustrating! Worse part is being told that my App collection will not be transferred to my new phone, so I had to write down all my Apps and will have to reinstall them again in my new phone! Thankfully they were all free apps, but it will take me TIME to put them all back again!!!

  12. JohnEG June 18, 2011, 1:52 pm

@Veer – I’ve also had the endless reboot problem (constantly cycles between the initial “LG” screen and the “G2x” screen). It started yesterday. I took it into TMO today and they are sending me a new phone. I had none of the other problems listed on this site, so I hope the new one doesn’t either!

  13. Ucidalin June 22, 2011, 1:30 pm

I purchased the G2x on May 1st. I have had many of the issues described here, but I feel LG pushed the envelope to get this phone out. I am hoping a ‘hopefully soon” update will fix these issues. My biggest problem lately is my micro USB and micro HDMI ports are becoming loose. the more I use them the harder it is for it to charge and I have found that when using the HDMI cable I have to prop something under the cable to not lose connection. Being this is a hardware problem, I am sure any software fix will not fix this issue.

  14. vorpal June 25, 2011, 2:26 pm

Just to toss you guys an up-date hehe, I hear from reliable sources that the ota will be available in about 3 weeks from now. hope this makes your lives easier hehe.

  15. Paul June 27, 2011, 5:03 am

I bought this phone because they are still selling it here in Canada through my carrier “Wind Mobile”. I returned in within a couple of days. Promises promises. I will go back and repurchase it when I read that the same problem I was having (dying and requiring battery pull) are confirmed fixed via software. I am not going to wait around pining for an update from LG or my carrier. They gonna have to come back to me pining for my $. Welcome to the free market. In the meantime, and with the fast approaching September launch of new phones, I gonna dream of getting a better phone if they don’t fix soon.

  16. jess July 4, 2011, 2:51 pm

Another problem I seem to be having is once in a while when I’m on a call the screen will not turn back on. I have to immediately take the battery out in order to end the call. Kinda ridiculous if you ask me.

  17. g2x-fix-please July 12, 2011, 3:22 pm

This post will echo what others have said.

Do not be seduced by the dual processors, 1080 video, HDMI out, the display, the gorilla glass the display is under, the form factor or other element of industrial design, or any other form of phone envy. It turns off when it wants to and can’t be turned on without pulling the battery.

I’ll say it again–the feature set is remarkable but marred by a single flaw, perhaps the only one that’s truly, desperately fatal, and I apologize in advance for raising my voice: THIS PHONE TURNS OFF WHEN IT WANTS TO AND CAN’T BE TURNED BACK ON WITHOUT TAKING OUT THE BATTERY AND PUTTING IT BACK IN. I’m not talking about once or twice but on the order of eight or ten times a day.

Have nothing to do with this phone until you can google it and read reports from owners who’ve installed a bug fix (which LG/T-Mobile have yet to provide) and are running it happily.

And, no, hearing someone say they’ve spoken with someone behind the scenes at T-Mobile who assured them most warmly that there’s a bug fix on the way doesn’t make my life easier.

  18. Ralph Kramden July 21, 2011, 2:17 pm

It’s Here. First Gingerbread update for G2X can be downloaded from LG website. Please note that this is not an OTA (Over the Air) update. I’m sure other releases will be coming. If you have issues I recommend updating to Gingerbread. If not wait a couple of days to see what others are experiencing.

Can’t move apps to external SD card, they move to a partion on the phone’s storage called mnt/sdcard the external memory card’s directory is mnt/sdcard/_externalsd
